Benoît LUPI

Born in 1989 in Gordes, in the heart of France’s Luberon region, Benoît Lupi is a self-taught French painter. His relationship with materials began in childhood, working alongside his father on the restoration of historic buildings. Stonework, the memory held within old walls and the luminous landscapes of Provence gradually shaped the sensibility of an artist who describes himself as a “dreamer-builder.”
Following several professional and entrepreneurial experiences, painting—initially pursued within the privacy of his studio—became the central focus of his life. Encounters at the Hôtel d’Astier in Forcalquier, together with the guidance of his mentor Michael Knight, helped him consolidate his artistic practice. Recognised as an emerging talent, Lupi went on to exhibit in Aix-en-Provence, Paris and internationally.
His work moves between abstraction and figuration. Mediterranean horizons, imagined landscapes and urban silhouettes provide the foundations for an exploration of light, emotion and inner movement. Depending on the series, the artist combines materials such as acrylic, oil, natural pigments, stone powder and gold leaf.
Gold plays a defining role in Lupi’s visual language. Far from being merely decorative, it captures variations in ambient light and continually alters the viewer’s perception of the painting. In his “Mon Horizon” collection, the golden line becomes a symbolic threshold opening onto ideas of freedom, optimism and escape.
Both sensitive and carefully constructed, Benoît Lupi’s paintings invite contemplation. Their shifting presence—created through the dialogue between tactile surfaces and luminous reflections—offers collectors an experience that evolves with the surrounding space and changing light.
