Walter Ciandrini

Born in Altkirch in 1962 and of Italian heritage, Walter Ciandrini is a self-taught painter who lives and works in Landser, Alsace, France. His figurative practice places the human being at the heart of a sensitive exploration shaped by emotion, memory and the invisible bonds that connect people.

Faces, busts and silhouettes inhabit his compositions like presences suspended between two moments. Rather than pursuing realistic likeness, Ciandrini paints attitudes, fragments of untold stories and glimpses of an inner world. His enigmatic figures become both open windows onto others and mirrors in which viewers may recognise something of themselves.

The artist works primarily with acrylic paint, applying it with both palette knife and brush, particularly on linen canvas. He also explores ink and pastel.
