With Keith, Eugène Debanne creates an intensely expressive portrait built through the contrast between acrylic paint and scratched metal. Against a dark background, the face gradually emerges through a dense network of lines, cross-hatching and luminous incisions. The cool blue tones deepen the gaze and give the work an almost magnetic presence.

Technique is central to the piece. The artist first applies paint to a metal plate, then scratches into the surface to reveal volume, facial detail and shifting light. This process produces a vibrant, tactile surface in which the image appears to emerge directly from the material itself.

The close framing and contemplative pose reinforce the psychological dimension of the portrait. Face, gaze and hand form a silent, focused and introspective composition. More than a likeness, Keith becomes a study of presence, character and inner depth.

Through its distinctive visual language and technical precision, the work will appeal to collectors drawn to contemporary portraiture, material experimentation and artistic practices that blur the boundaries between painting, drawing and engraving.
