In Lipstick, a vertical work measuring 116 × 81 cm, Virginie Horens portrays a female figure with an unmistakably retro sense of style. Seated on a sculptural stool, holding a telephone receiver to her ear and a lipstick in her other hand, she appears suspended between conversation, preparation and self-presentation.

The composition is built around a confident graphic language. White outlines define the figure and surrounding objects, while broad areas of turquoise, pink, green, burgundy and peach create a rhythmic backdrop of sweeping curves. The black telephone and its cord introduce a strong contrasting line that moves through the image and connects the scene’s different elements.

Drawing upon the visual culture of the 1960s and 1970s, Lipstick combines Pop sensibility, vintage elegance and playful humour. The deliberately simplified face allows posture, colour and accessories to carry the narrative. Vibrant and instantly recognisable, the work brings a bold, joyful and sophisticated presence to contemporary and eclectic interiors alike.
